Manuscripts of works by or about Petrarch, including: 1. Eptir Petrarca, sonnetta, an Icelandic translation of Petrarch's sonnet Voi ch'ascoltate in rime sparse il suono, by Matthías Jochumsson (published in his Ljóðmaeli, 1884); 2. a poem, Alla tomba di Mr. Francesco Petrarca sonetto (first line: Ecco l'urna famosa, e il cener chiude); 3. a sonnet by Pietro Ducci, In occasione del centenario del Petrarca celebrato in Valchiusa da Italia e Francia nell' anno 1874, sonetto, copied from a sheet printed in Arezzo in 1874 and signed by the author; 4. a poem, Al Petrarca (first line: A chi un' alma gentil serra nel petto); 5. a poem, Capitolo in lode del Petrarca, attributed to Francesco Sansovino. All are housed in a blue cloth case lettered (incorrectly) Articles about Petrarch.

Francesco Petrarca (b. July 20, 1304, Arezzo, Italy–d. July 19, 1374, Arquà, Italy), commonly anglicized as Petrarch, was a scholar and poet of Renaissance Italy who was one of the earliest humanists. His rediscovery of Cicero's letters is often credited with initiating the 14th-century Renaissance. Petrarch is often considered the founder of Humanism.
